SR-955HPC+ Setup Guide

This guide is for the SR-955HPC+ (short chassis, vents, faceplate marked HPC+). Classic V1/V2 use SR-955HPC Setup Guide. Confirm the radio: Which 955 do I have?

SR-955HPC+ faceplate. Mode switch includes WX. The switch that was RB / PRG on older 955s is NRC / PRG on the Plus.

1. Band / VFO switch — Set to Band. Turn the frequency knob to band 4, then set the switch to the middle position (unless you are using VFO).
2. Receiver squelch (SQ) — All the way left to start.
3. Receiver volume (VOL) — Comfortable level.
4. RF Gain — All the way right.
5. Microphone gain — All the way right.
6. Echo delay (DEL) — With talkback (MON) on, set to taste. Leave left if you do not want echo.
7. Echo volume — With talkback on, set to taste.
8. Fine clarifier (FIN) — 12 o’clock on AM. On SSB, turn it to clarify the voice.
9. Coarse clarifier (COA) — 12 o’clock or +0K.
10. RF power (PWR) — 12 o’clock to start.
11. Monitor / talkback (MON) — Comfortable level. Full left is off.
12. Mode selector — AM for AM. Positions on the Plus are AM, FM, USB, LSB, WX, and PA. Weather: Does the SR-955HPC have weather channels?
13. Dimmer (DIM) / Hi-Cut (HIC) — Middle for normal brightness and HIC off. To dim: slide to DIM, then turn the channel knob (32 steps).
14. NB / ANL — Set to ANL unless you need the blanker.
15. NRC / PRG — Middle unless you are using noise reduction or the program menu. NRC level is also in the function menu (RNRC / TNRC).
16. TSQ / Echo (ECH) — Middle, or right if you want echo on.

FUNC, COLOR, and SCAN are the three buttons to the left of the meter. Frequency knob is on the far right.

If you scramble the function menu, reset to factory defaults:

1. Radio off. Hold FUNC + COLOR + SCAN.
2. Power on. Display shows REST ALL.
3. Release. Wait for REST END.
4. Power off and back on.
