Does the SR-955HPC have weather channels?

Weather channels and severe-weather alerts are on the SR-955HPC+ only (short chassis with vents). Classic Version 1 and Version 2 955s do not have NOAA weather. Confirm the radio: Which 955 do I have?

The SR-655HPC+ has the same weather feature. Does the SR-655HPC have weather channels?

Listen to weather

1. Turn the mode switch to WX (same switch as AM / FM / USB / LSB / PA).
2. Turn the channel selector to move through weather channels.
3. Weather is receive-only. The HPC+ will not transmit on weather frequencies. VHF 136–174 MHz receive is also receive-only. Will the SR-955HPC+ transmit on 136-174 MHz?

Function menu (weather items)

Hold FUNC about two seconds until the display shows FIN, then release. Press FUNC again to step through items. Turn the channel knob to change the value.

• WXSC — ADD or DEL weather channels in the scan list.
• ALER — severe weather alerts from the National Weather Service. Factory default is ON. Set to OFF if you do not want alert tones.
• WXSQ — weather-channel squelch, 1–9 or OFF.

To scan weather channels you added with WXSC, use the radio’s SCAN button while in WX.

Alerts will not stop

Open the function menu, find ALER, set it to OFF. That is the “deactivate alerts as needed” option on the product page.

Reset weather menu items

Radio off. Hold FUNC + COLOR + SCAN, power on, wait for REST ALL then REST END, then power cycle. That restores factory menu values, including ALER ON.

V1 and V2 owners looking for NOAA: those chassis do not include weather. HPC+ is the short case with vents.
